so this is the new year,
and I don’t feel any different.
the clanking of crystal,
explosions off in the distance.so this is the new year,
and I have no resolutions.
for self assigned penance,
for problems with easy solutions.
so everybody put your best suit or dress on.
let’s make believe we are wealthy for just this once.
lighting firecrackers off on the front lawn,
as thirty dialogs bleed into one.
I wish the world was flat like the old days,
then I could travel just by folding a map.
no more airplanes, or speed trains, or freeways,
there’d be no distance that could hold us back.
there’d be no distance that could hold us back.
so this is the new year.
the new year.

So that song always come up around this time. I think its so cool and a great opener for an even greater album. Anyway. Most songs about New Year’s are often somber and reflective. Looking back on the bad times and how they could have been better. How the next year will be better.
So here I am in 2008. this is the new year, and I don’t feel any different. But that’s not a bad thing. I had a great year. I settled into a major I love at school. I read many awesome books. Listened to so much great music. I went to some awesome shows. I lived away from home over the summer. I moved into an apartment with some of my best friends in the world. I did very well in my classes. I have a new niece. and Candace now only lives a 10 minute walk away. It was a great year.
I learned to fear God more, not just in a fervent, respectful way, but in a “I have no idea what He is going to do next” way. I learned to live a bit more simply. I learned to be more thankful. I learned that I need community to flourish. I learned to love others a bit more. I’m still learning all of these things, but they have progressed through this past year.
I know this new year will be awesome. I only have 2 more semesters worth of classes before I move back to Pittsburgh. Ben, Kevin, Aaron, Jared, Matt, Anthony and I will be rocking the 7th floor Graduate in our pent house. I should have a cool job this summer back home. And there’s some other stuff I’m excited about that I can’t quite divulge yet, but I’m looking forward to it.
