According to Erik Erikson (I believe), one’s identity is made up of 3 parts: love, work, and worldview. So here is my identity as of January 2008.
Love: So yes, I am engaged as of Saturday evening. I took Candace out to see Juno (which comes highly recommended) and then took her to the first place I told her that I loved her and popped the question (which also comes highly recommended). She said yes, which makes things a lot easier and a lot less awkward. We’re looking at summer of ‘09. It’s weird to think about getting married, because I’m not all that old, but it doesn’t feel wrong. Just a little weird, which I’m sure most people feel no matter what age.
Work: I am an HDFS major, which has its ups and downs. Ups, that the classes are really interesting and practical. Downs, that I will make very little money after graduation. I will need to go to grad school to be able to support a family. I’m looking at either getting my Masters of Social Work (or related program) or something at seminary. Of course, I don’t know right now and probably won’t for some time, but it’s good to think and pray about it now. God’s carried me this far, so I know He’ll keep dragging me along.
Worldview: This part is mostly related to religion and politics, fyi. I am a Christian. Some people don’t like to identify with that term, because of the history associated with it, but I do. Some say that they are a follower of Christ, which is great, I think. Christian means “little Christ.” I wish not to be a simple follower of Him, but a reflection and smaller model of my Creator and Savior. I find it difficult to remove myself spiritually from my politics. I do not support, however, a theocracy. I do not care much about a candidate’s religion, because I feel that most are simply subscribing to it to gain spiritual voters. I feel that I am Pro-life across the board. Anti-abotion, against the death penalty, and against war. Redemption and grace are offered to all. Who am I to cast the first stone? Let Christ judge them when He returns. I saw a poster once that read something like: “I want to live in a world that every school haa a playground, and the military has to hold a bake sale to buy tanks and bombers.” I like that. It’s a little idealistic, but I like it.
